On this page, we have reviews of these products (read below or go directly to the products): The Parent Toolbox Disney Vacation and Savings Travel Guide Sign Language for Babies and Beyond My Out of Control Teen PC-Tattletale Parental Control Software IAmBigBrother Spy Software See our Ratings of these and other products! The Parent Toolbox: This is a very useful resource. It's packed full with opportunities for parents to exchange ideas, get expert advice and better understand their kids and their own role in their kids' lives. Along with one other product on this page, I strongly recommend this for all parents. Read the sales pitch here. And believe what they're telling you! Disney Vacation and Savings Travel Guide: I know this book is not like the others on this list--directly related to parenting--but its seems like a good place to put it (in addition to the travel section). It's written by a former Disney World employee, and it has enough tips, that only an insider would know, to increase your enjoyment of the experience--and save you enough money to pay for the book many times over! Look at the description here. Sign Language for Babies and Beyond: If you don't have an infant, this would make a great gift for a friend or relative. It would even make a unique baby shower gift. You've probably seen the reports of the recent research about the benefits of teaching babies sign language. It allows them to communicate long before their vocal mechanism as matured enough to allow them to speak. This product comes with the traditional e-book plus a video! Buy it here. My Out of Control Teen: This package, a Godsend for parents in need of it, comes with book, power point and audio components. If it's for you, you'll know it's worth looking at. If you don't need it; you're lucky! Take a look here. Here are two competing products: PC-Tattletale Parental Control Software and IAmBigBrother Spy Software. It took me a while to decide to review these products. On the one hand, I don't like the idea of parents spying on their children's private lives. On the other hand, I especially dislike the idea of kids getting themselve in trouble online. I finally decided, obviously, to let you parents decide. After all, until they are 18 or so, they are legally (and morally) your responsibility. We know that our kids do things that we never find out about. They do have a right to privacy, after all. Sometimes they do things that are dangerous, and they might not even realize it is dangerous behavior. Remember from your own teen and pre-teen years? We often see parents in television news reports saying things like, "I didn't know my son was depressed." "I had not idea my daughter was giving out personal information on the Internet." Some of these stories end happily; others, sadly, do not. If you use this software, I hope you will use it judiciously. Don't confront your children about their Internet use unless they are engaging in activities that are truly dangerous. If they are using language you don't approve, ask yourself: "Is this language really getting them into serious trouble?" It's probably not. Don't blow your cover on the little things. If they are divulging their address online, then it's time to find a subtle way to work into a conversation. It may not seem like it sometimes, but most kids really do value their parents' logical guidelines. These are very similar products. I recommend IAmBigBrother only because it is a bit less expensive, but you can look at them both to compare. You can find IAmBigBrother here. And PC-Tattletale is here. After a lot of reflection, I decided that if I still had a teenager, I would probably buy one of these easy to install and use products. A word of caution to employers: Many companies use this software to monitor their employees Internet activities. After all, the company is liable for all Internet activity by their employees using company equipment. If you decide to do that, it is important to make sure that your policy handbook specifies that employees' computer activities, including Internet use, may be monitored at any time. You should also specify what kinds of activities are outside of company approved uses. Check with your attorney on the wording of these policy statements. Join our Online Savings Newsletter here:
