How Do You Repair Your Credit?

One way to repair credit is to gradually build it over time.  You can choose to start by getting credit for the easiest ways first.  Maybe you can pay for your phone, electric or some other utility on time every month for a year or more.

You can help repair your credit by seeing if your landlord will report your regular, on time payments for your housing to the credit bureau.

It will help in your credit repair efforts, if you open a checking account at a local bank.  Make sure you never over-draw on your account.

Open a savings account.  That will go a long way in repairing your credit, especially if you make regular deposits--even if they are small deposits--and never withdraw any of that money.  This is a good idea even if you can only deposit $10 a week or $20 a month.

This process will take a long time.  You might want to use an organization to help you repair your credit more carefully.  Lots of companies offer valuable credit repair services in this area.  It's important to check them our and compare what they offer.  I suggest checking out at least four or five companies that offer credit repair.  That's easy to do on the Internet, but you should also check to see what's available in your local communities.  Don't sign anything until you've done your checking into the various credit repair offers!

How Do You Know You Need Credit Repair?

You can check your credit rating for free once a year.  The credit agencies are required by U.S. law to provide this free service for you.  Usually, you would not need to do it more often,, so you shouldn't have to pay for that service.  Some companies will try to charge you to get that free report for you.

The first clues that you need credit repair may come if you find yourself rejected for a secured loan (like a car loan).  Maybe you want to move, but you are having trouble finding a landlord who will rent to you.  These are clues that your credit needs repairing.
